Samsung is using AI to predict break down in appliances – but there’s a catch

Samsung is bringing AI to a wide variety of products, even its home appliances. We’ve already told you about AI in Samsung washing machines and the Bespoke AI Jet Ultra—but the company is also using AI to keep an eye on your appliances and predict potential breakdowns before they happen.

The feature is called AI Pre-Care Notification, and it’s part of Samsung’s AI Subscription Club, which launched in 2024. This system uses AI to track how your appliances are performing, checking usage, condition, and even things like consumables to flag any possible issues.

For example, Samsung says if your air conditioner is running low on refrigerant or your fridge isn’t cooling as it should, the AI service will diagnose the problem and suggest what might be going wrong. Of course, your appliances need to be connected to the SmartThings platform for this to work—and if an issue is detected, a customer service rep will reach out by phone.

But it doesn’t end there: you can even schedule an on-site repair to fix the problem before it turns into a major malfunction. The AI Pre-Care Notification works with air conditioners, air dressers, dishwashers, dryers, induction cookers, kimchi refrigerators, microwaves/ovens, refrigerators, robot vacuum cleaners, and washing machines.

This seems like a smart way to use AI—after all, nobody wants an appliance to break down completely when a little preventive maintenance could save time and money. Samsung also points out that catching issues early means you can handle air conditioning problems before summer hits, when repair demand spikes.

Now, here’s the catch: you’ll need to be part of the AI Subscription Club to use this service. Right now, the club is only available in Korea. The subscription lets you rent AI-powered appliances with maintenance included, so this new AI Pre-Care Notification feature makes the whole experience smoother—and puts AI to good use.

As a fun side note, the AI Subscription Club also lets you rent Ballie, Samsung’s home robot, which is expected to get a wider release later in 2025. Maybe Samsung will expand the subscription service to more regions around the same time.
